Jack's October Fun Stuff

The first weekend of October was homecoming at the high school. Jack went with a group of friends. His date was Molly, who lives in Richland, but they had met through Choral Fusion. Someone in the group arranged for a professional to take some photos prior to the dance. They were in a hurry, and I only managed to get a couple of my own pictures, but the photographer got some really good ones anyway.

And since this was homecoming weekend, that meant that Jack also performed with the marching band at the homecoming game and their first band competition for the season.

The first three weekends in October were competitions. The first one was Cavalcade in Kennewick. The second one was in Spokane and the third was at the Harvest Marching Band Festival in Yakima. I attended the ones in Kennewick and Yakima. Curtis came to Yakima with me, but we did not make it to Spokane this year because of other things going on. Our band received 2nd place in their division in Spokane with a score of 60.9 preliminary, and 61.3 in finals. In Yakima they placed 3rd in their division and 9th Overall with a score of 67.43 preliminary and 67.6 in finals. Dr. Lindberg, who is the band director, later said that this was the highest their school has ever scored. It's awesome to think Jack was a part of that.

Our band kids all had white cowboy hats on to go with their "Heartland" theme. They sat on the opposite side of the field after their performance. 

After the last competition was over, the band had a celebration after school and handed out some fun homemade awards. Jack received "The Dove Whisperer Award" because he would bring one of his fake plastic dove birds that could clip on to his instrument while playing at the football games (in the stands, not the field performance).

Instead of going to the ward Trunk or Treat with us, Jack went to another homecoming dance. This one was put on by the church. He went with another girl he met from Choral Fusion, Zenna Haws. She is one of the daughters of the director. I'm glad that one of the moms sent out pictures to everyone later because I didn't even see his date that time.

I sure enjoy watching Jack do these fun things. He's a busy guy and likes to have fun with his friends, which are many. Most importantly, he has learned how to find good friends, both church members and non-church members.
